CNSL residue and heavy CNSL

Cardanol distillation leaves a heavier cashew-derived fraction, commonly described as CNSL residue or heavy CNSL. Unblended heavy residue and lower-viscosity commercial blends can have very different properties. The product identity and offered-grade specification should therefore be confirmed before comparing quotations.

Published reference data for the heavy residue grade

  • Kinematic viscosity at 25°C: 22,090 cSt; representative TDS result.
  • Density at 25°C: 1.006 kg/L; representative TDS result.
  • Water content: 0.68% by mass; representative TDS result.
  • Flash point, open cup: 210°C; representative TDS result.
  • Sulfur: 0.0250% by mass; representative TDS result.
  • Gross heat of combustion: 9,098.5 kcal/kg; representative TDS result.

These values describe the reference heavy-oil sample in that document; they are not guaranteed results for all residue grades or a current lot. Lower-viscosity grades, blends and application-specific limits are confirmed separately. Dynamic viscosity and kinematic viscosity are not interchangeable.

Application assessment

For industrial thermal or fuel-blending use, review burner suitability, pumping viscosity at the operating temperature, water, ash, sulfur and relevant contaminants. Very viscous grades can require heated transfer equipment. Storage and heating arrangements must be assessed by the receiving facility against the current SDS. Material applications require their own customer tests.

Packing and delivery

Packing may include ISO tanks, IBCs, flexitanks or bulk shipment, depending on the product grade, viscosity, route and carrier acceptance. Loading quantity, export gateway and delivery schedule are confirmed in the quotation or contract. Follow the current SDS for storage, handling and transport.
